Broken Harddrive, USB enclosure: I want to wipe it, but windows can’t recognise it!?

October 1, 2009 - 9:56 pm

My laptop harddrive, connected to my desktop via USB enclosure. Enclosure is recognised, but the hard drive is not. Anyway to make sure all contents are deleted. Like, a program to sniff USB mass storage devices and format or repair???

Thankyou
It needs to be returned to the OEM (DELL) as I got the new laptop harddrive under warranty. So destroying it is not an option.

The disk *can* be read, but it only works 1 in a 100 times… so not really.

I used R-Studio to get a couple of files from th e disk, but it took 20+ hours to get them and it has to be returned in 4 days, so not long enough - hence the deletion method.

If the hard drive is broken then its unlikely that any utility will recover it. If you want peace of mind then a rather large hammer and a long pointy nail will make it ‘read safe”.
