Will enclosure type sub woofer matches sedan cars?
i am planning to buy a new subwooer for my new sedan will enclosure type suits it will want an answer soon regarding it.
am planning to buy a new subwooer for my new sedan, will enclosure type suits it, i am having an alpineee system in it planning to buy a 1200watts sub will want an answer soon regarding it
since it is going in a car it will be in the trunk, which means that you will not really be able to hear the "lack" of sound quality. so i would go with a ported box because they hit harder,
and since it is a new car i would not throw anything too outrageous in the trunk because it will slowly tear the car apart (loosen nuts and bolts making it rattle and squeak, happened to my new car) and don’t forget the Dynamat http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=181250&i=15410135&search=Dynamat+VENDORID154&searchdisplay=Dynamat&tp=2277

if you want a better sound quality, build a sealed box.
if you want to be loud and dont mind loosing some sound quality, get a ported box tuned to the recommended Hz provided by the manufacturer of the subwoofer you’ll be using. usually 32 - 34 Hz sound best.
also, usually in a sedan vehicle, if you face the subwoofers forward *subwoofer facing towards the engine* you will have a better sound quality but will most likely will not be loud.
but if you face your subwoofers to the back of the car, the subs will be much louder but you will have trunk rattle and some sound quality loss.
on another note, if you were to include what type of audio system, type of subwoofer, amount of watts, and what type of car you will be using, we might be more helpful.

You should choose an enclosure based on what type of subs you have not what car…
There are a couple of factors that you need to take into account when deciding what enclosure to use. First is to look at what the manufacturer recommends. They will give recommendations for the size and type of enclosure to use. If they recommend multiple enclosure types then your sub works in these different types of enclosures. This is important because not all subs work well in a certain type of enclosure. Some may work better in sealed and some may work better in ported.
If your sub works well in multiple enclosures then you can decide based on what type of sound you are looking for. A sealed enclosure will give you tight, accurate bass with a flat frequency response. This means good sound quality. Sealed also works well for the most types of music.
A ported enclosure will give you more output from your subs. This means a louder sound but with a reduction in the tight bass. Ported enclosures can be tuned to fit a wide range of sound. You can have one tuned for good sound quality and good SPL. You can also have an enclosure tuned to maximize the SPL of your sub.
The last common enclosure is a bandpass enclosure. This is more effecient than a ported enclosure which means more SPL but only in a narrow range of frequencies. This means very loud bass in this narrow range but not in the frequencies out of this range. These enclosures are not recommended for sound quality because they produce a non-musical sound. They are also not good for many different types of music. They are moslty recommended in applications where loud bass is needed such as rap and hard rock music.

Hi,
I hope you realise that you are crossing over the realm of music lovers and into serious professional audiophiles. Since we are discussing what kind of enclosure you think will best suit your sedan, I think it is but logical that you first inform us about the make and model of your car, the audio components installed and those that you plan to install, any custom modifications to improve the sound deadening or acoustics in your car, what kind of music you generally listen to and finally what you expect from your system. Right now a good free air installation on the rear shelf could serve the purpose of improving the bass component in your car. If such an installation is not possible or if you have more serious gear you can get a variety of custom made sealed enclosures for your subwoofers. Choose carefully so that you get the box constructed with the highest quality material and craftsmanship. Check out websites and forums for more details and you’ll have fun choosing your own design and components.
