Porch Enclosure

I have an 01 Tacoma Xtra cab with a built-in storage compartment behind the passenger seat.
It has a 9" opening that I could squeeze an 8" sub into.
I’d like to seal it up and line it with some type of sound mat. Has anyone tried this before?
My old speaker box takes up too much room and this seems like a good solution.
Any advice would be appreciated.
