Why is it when I connect my external SATA enclosure HD to my laptop it does not work?

But when I try to connect it on my desktop it works fine. I don’t think that my USB on my laptop is broken because I am using a USB mouse and it works. And if its the driver, I don’t install any driver on my desktop. I’m just wondering.
It in on the system tray I can see the safely remove, but I can’t see the device in my computer.

when you say it doesn’t work what d oyou mean? do you not see your HDD in the my computor menu? or does it come up with an error or does it not power up? …

You need to get one that houses the kind of hard drive you have. In the case of a laptop, you need one for a 2.5" hard drive in either SATA or ATA/IDE depending on the age of your laptop. If it was made in the past few years it’s more than likely using a SATA interface.

2.5 inch IDE connection enclosure, this connects to usb as long as your hard drive is not damaged then you can pull the information off of it

I want to create a small hard plastic case for a little project. I know you can buy plastic enclosures online but I want the case to fit snugly around the PCB and to be as small as possible.

Use Epoxy and fiber glass sheet.

External SATA drive in USB enclosure won’t give me my files back!?

So, I have a 320GB WD Scorpio black in a usb powered enclosure. I was using it as a backup drive.

But now, when I try to get the files off of it, it doesn’t want to work. When transfering files from the drive to my pc, the Estimated Time Remaining dialogue box will freeze up after a few seconds, and the drive will start to click. It’s just a small, quiet click every 30 seconds or so. But no more data transfers, and I cannot cancel the transfer or do anything with it other than unplugging the drive from the USB.

I had considered that it may be a power issue. But the drive itself works, I can access the files on the drive 90% of the time without error, I just can’t transfer them. I am using a Y split usb, on usb 2.0 ports. Unfortunately I am also using Vista, if this makes a difference.

I have tried the freezer trick as well. It worked on one folder, but hasn’t worked since.

What can I do?

Are you trying to transfer huge files (let’s say files over 4gb) at the same time? Like copying a huge selection of files to transfer I think that would caused the freeze; maybe if you try transferring small files one at a time… maybe that’l work… if that’s the case.

I heard your not supposed to use a glass aquarium, and I think a wire cage would be very messy and not keep the substrate. So what type of enclosure should be used? Could I just build one from mesh wire and wood?

Depends on the age and size of your monitor. Most people do start out with glass aquarium tanks for baby monitors. Once they get big, you wouldn’t want to use glass tanks for fear that a good tail whip might break the glass. (Of course, if your monitor is well socialized by then, there is less chance of tail whips)
I kept my Nile monitor in a 40 gal breeder tank until I got a wood/plexiglas cage refurbished. (It had been made for snakes and needed some work before being ready to house a 2 year old monitor) The cage is wood framed and paneled on 3 sides, with plexiglas on the front. The top has hardware cloth (Very sturdy stuff) and there is a trap door on the top as well as doors on the front of the cage. I’m figuring my monitor has maybe 2 or 3 years in this cage before requiring something bigger and even more sturdy.
You can purchase large cages from a variety of companies, but honestly, building one yourself tends to be less expensive as well as being able to build it to the size you want.

I wanted to run 2 different sub enclosures(each with one 12in Kicker L7) one on each side of my open trunk in jeep grand cherokee. and i wanted to put a 2000watt between the 2 enclosures. is this possible?

Ones that advertise compatibility with 2.5" drives, those are the ones in laptops.

Drives these days are SATA but for an older IDE laptop drive, you’d want an enclosure with the IDE interface.

How can you control a 12 volt DC fan to go on when the temperature gets hot?

I want to install a small 12 volt DC fan inside weather enclosure (containing a security camera) to protected it from the summer heat. I want the fan to automatically turn on at 95 degrees to help ventilate the camera. I can only think of installing a thermostat from an air conditioner unit inside the enclosure. Is there a better way. I have visited electronic suppy stores and can’t find anything that would help keep the camera cool. (I have only heaters for these units).
Any suggestions?

How big should a king snake enclosure be?

I’ll be buying a baby kingsnake and I’m planning to DIY an enclosure for it.
Right now, the measurements are 3.5ft x 2ft x 2.5ft.
Is it a little too big for the snake?
Any suitable size from your recommendation?
How about corn snake?
Does both of these snake love to climb?
I’m thinking of making them a platform to climb.

I have my California King in a 29 gallon tank(with a screen lid obviously). I don’t think it’s too big, if anything the snake will love to have so much room. Just make sure you have one side of the tank heated(heat pads are best in my opinion) and the other side cool. You need some kind of hide on each side and some kind of water dish that always has clean water. and make sure you spray the heated side with water at least once a day to keep it humid. Oh and one last thing, bedding. Use cypress mulch trust me, it’s cheap and you only have to change it every six months. And unlike aspen, it doesn’t hold parasites. Plus king snakes LOVE it because they like to burrow. Well hope I helped. And good luck with the little guy.
