what is a external hard drive enclosure?

All I want to know is what is a external hard drive enclosure?

It is an enclosure to use a hard drive externally.

    its a box that you can put a ide hard drive into and use it as a back up hard drive. it usually has a small power supply that you plug in and a usb connector for connecting it to your computer.
    There is also available a smaller hd enclosure that uses a 2.5 inch laptop hard drive that also gets it’s power from the usb cable making it convenient for portability. (40 gig or less only)

    It is a casing which has a power supply and connections inside that you can install a hard disk into. Then it will have a USB or a firewire cable connection to your computer.

    Make sure you choose an enclosure with the correct size (2.5" or 3.5") and the correct connection (IDE or SATA) to match the hard drive you are planning to install into it.
