What is a External Enclosure Hard Drive?

I asked a question heard and someone suggest me to get a External Enclosure.

Question: What is a External Enclosure and what does it do?
I read that you can put a hard drive that have info in it and be able to read what is inside the hard drive

    It is a housing for a HDD that you don’t use anymore so that you can put it in and retrieve the files on the HDD without putting it back in to the pc. more information can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_Drive_Enclosure

    In a nutshell it is a box that will allow you to install a hard drive into it. You can then plug this box into any computer to access the hard drive. This has the advantage that your hard drive is now portable & can easily be moved from PC to PC.

    Since I’m the one that suggested it,I’ll tell you.You put a hard drive in it and you can use it as storage for files,music,programs or anything you want.It connects to your computer by USB cable,it has a cable to plug into electric for power.You can back up all your files to it, if you want, so in case your windows or anything goes bad on your computer.
