Why is it when I connect my external SATA enclosure HD to my laptop it does not work?

February 5, 2012 - 7:24 pm 1 Comment

But when I try to connect it on my desktop it works fine. I don’t think that my USB on my laptop is broken because I am using a USB mouse and it works. And if its the driver, I don’t install any driver on my desktop. I’m just wondering.
It in on the system tray I can see the safely remove, but I can’t see the device in my computer.

when you say it doesn’t work what d oyou mean? do you not see your HDD in the my computor menu? or does it come up with an error or does it not power up? …

i wanna get stuff off the hard drive on my broken laptop someone said to get a external enclosure how do i know what one to get or does is matter?

You need to get one that houses the kind of hard drive you have. In the case of a laptop, you need one for a 2.5" hard drive in either SATA or ATA/IDE depending on the age of your laptop. If it was made in the past few years it’s more than likely using a SATA interface.

which hard drive to put in laptop and which hd to put in external enclosure?

September 6, 2011 - 7:58 am 3 Comments

In the Near future, I will be having one Hybrid SSD/HDD and one HDD both 7200rpm

which one should i keep in the laptop and which one should go in the USB 3.0 external enclosure.
mainly, i only use the internal hd just to boot the os and run applications. i keep all files, sessions, videos, pictures, music in the external. so what would be the better placement of these two for me?

please provide reasoning. thnx!

Put the SSD into the laptop, and the operating system on the SSD. The laptop will be ready to use 7 seconds after pressing the power button. It looks cool to other people, and they think you have an extremely high end computer.

What does an external drive enclosure do?

I’m possibly going to have to remove an internal hard drive from an old PC that doesn’t work, but I’ve the slightest clue how to connect one to my working desktop.

Does an external drive enclosure let you connect an internal hard drive via USB or something? or is that not even close?

You’re correct. An external hard drive enclosure just has the data and power connectors on the inside of the enclosure. You would plug your internal hard drive in, close the enclosure and plug it into another computer via usb or firewire.

I pulled out hard drive on my Compaq Presario 2100 laptop to retrieve the files off it. I got a 2.5" IDE HDD enclosure for it and it doesn’t fit! Did I buy the wrong one or am I doing something wrong? Please any help! Thanks!
What doesn’t fit is the conectors /slots. The one on the enclosure looks like pins fit into it. The one on the hard drive doesnt have pins, but a slot.

before you purchased a parts or hardware for the replacement for your laptop, you must bring the damage hardware to the store so they can refer what kind of hardware you can purchased and replaced.. then you might need a computer technician to do the replacement because we technician have a proper procedure in assemble and disassemble a system machine hardware.. we prevent the ESD.. the virus comes from your body.. if the ESD from your body goes to the hardware you bought even though it is a brandnew.. it might be damage.. before you hold the hardware you must first hold a metal object for the ESD..hope that helps..

can a 2.5 hard drive work inside a 3.5 external enclosure?

November 24, 2010 - 9:05 pm 2 Comments

i want an external enclosure with a *fan* and can’t seem to find one for a 2.5 hard drive. so i figured i would just get one for a 3.5 hard drive. that way i can use it with all my hard drives, but i don’t know if that will work.

What type of harddrive do you have ?
PATA (IDE) drives connector are different between the 2.5" and the 3.5". But on SATA drives they’re the same.

So you can run 2.5" SATA drives in 3.5" enclosures, but not if you have PATAs (IDEs)
