How to : Subwoofer enclosures. *Modifications to pre-exsisting box*?
Ok, im trying to make my box sound better. I’ve seen those boxes for 12" subs with a gap cut in the middle or the top that supposivly make them sound better. Is there a way to modify a standard box and make it into a bandpass box. OR could you just add a few ports to make it better… Thanks
I have a sealed dual 12" box
You cannot just modify a sealed box to make it ported as ported boxes are usually bigger than sealed boxes. That gap you are talking about is called a port and is tuned to a certain frequency.Ported boxes are for extended low bass for music such as rap/hip-hop.You will have to get a new box built.Do not buy prefabs. You need a box that is tailored to your subs such as required internal volume, tuning frequency etc.You should look around in your area for a car audio shop and ask them for a quote.

you could drill 3 inch holes in the box one per sub,I’m guessing that’s not your problem.Your problem is probably under wattage for your subs or your subs are just not decent, anther old skool trick was to stuff some rags in the bottom of each compartment of the subs. The reason you can’t put a whole in the middle is couse that’s where your center support is for your sub box.

don’t go bandpass it will wear your speakers out a lot faster and make it easier to blow if you want good sound.

zoom got it right, best bet is a box built and tuned specifically for your subs
the ported box wont necessarily sound better, it will have an increased response near the tuned frequency though
