Why is it important for a animals enclosure to be safe and secure?

This is a question on a college assignment i have… heres the question…

You are required to describe the importance of safety and security within animal enclosures and explain what can go wrong if you do not maintain it. You must also describe how and why you maintain animal housing.

So why is safety and security important in a animals enclosure and how do you maintain the animal housing and why?

thanks in advance!

If it’s not secure they can escape and get into undesirable places (such as into main roads, get to wiring and plug sockets, fall into things/climb up things etc etc). It also means things that could harm them could get in, i.e. a fox into a chicken coop.

If it’s not well maintained (such as roofing kept water tight, wood replaced if it starts to rot, etc etc) then it can let rain in and cause health problems, it could also collapse entirely and kill whatever animal is in there. If things are left exposed, like sharp splinters and nails, those can harm the animal too, either buy catching on the animal or being ingested.

I met a horse once, only had 1 eye, the other had been gauged out when he spooked in a stable in it got caught on a nail that was sticking out - OUCH!

It’s important so that the animal can lead a longer and healthier life. Also so it is not exposed to any danger (feral animals looking for fights, diseases, pests and even being stole or hit by car). You maintain the animal housing by keeping an eye on your animal whilst its outdoors. Keep the animal inside during the night and when you are not home. Locking cat doors, cages and locks in general will prevent any break in’s by humans which might steal the animal or the animal might open a door and get loose.

if it isn’t maintained, locks and wire can rust making its easy for the animal to escape also rusted wire can easily cut into the animal and rusted metal harbors infections like tetanus which could be fatal. Also in a zoo if a wild predator escapes from an enclosure all hell would break loose!
That answered most of your question, also if u choose this one for your assignment can you give me credit.
