What type of subwoofer enclosure should I purchase for a hatchback vehicle?

I am about to put 2 8" subwoofers in my 06 Tiburon. Once I remove the piece separating the trunk from the cab, it will basically be a hatchback, so I’m wondering if it would be better to use a free-air enclosure or a sealed one? The speakers are, according to the manufacturer, designed to be used either way.

Ported box if you want maximum output. Sealed will save you some space, as sealed boxes can be smaller than ported counterparts. Hatchbacks are great for bass, so a pair of 8’s will sound good either way.

If I were you I would get 2 8w0 JL Audio woofers and get a sealed enclosure built for it.

Once upon a time had a single JL 8w6 old school in a hatch, sounded AWESOME and louder than you would expect.
