What should I use for my tortoise enclosure?

September 15, 2009 - 8:11 am

I have a tortoise already and I am going to make it a new enclosure. I am getting another one too and I am going to get one of those big rubbermaid tubs for it. I’m going to PetSmart later this week and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what kind of bedding I should use and what kind of accessories i should add besides of couse the light?

Depends on the species of the tortoise.. With my redfoot, I use sphagnum only because it holds humidity well and it resistant to mold. With Russians a lot of people use a 50/50 mix of play sand and those eco earth bricks of coconut fiber. So, yeah, definitely depends on what species of tortoise you have. Other then that just a large shallow dish for bathing and perhaps a couple hides, one of the cool side one for the warm side of the enclosure..
