Find the dimensions of the enclosure that is most economical to construct?

April 11, 2010 - 9:08 am 1 Comment

A fence is to be built to enclose a rectangular area of 240 square feet. The fence along three sides is to be made of material that costs 5 dollars per foot, and the material for the fourth side costs 16 dollars per foot. Find the dimensions of the enclosure that is most economical to construct.

A = W L = 240
P = 2W + 2L
cost = (5+5)W + 5L + 16L
but W = 240/L (from A)
cost = 2400/L + 21L
cost’(L) = -2400/L^2 + 21 = 0 at the optimum L
21L^2 = 2400
L = sqrt(2400/21)

What size enclosure should i build for my juvenile chinese water dragon?

April 9, 2010 - 11:36 am 3 Comments

I am planning on building him an enclosure, but I am not sure exactly what size to make it. I want to make it big enough that it should be a good size cage for like five six years. I was thinking 4′ wide(long) X 2-21/2′ deep(depth) X 5′ high(tall). Would these dimensions be okay. He is about 1 and 1/2 ‘ long now.

Go with 5 foot LONG. 2.5 Feet wide. 4 foot tall. You can go bigger, but those are the smallest you wanna give it if you are building it. The bigger the better. Make sure its not just tall but long too, they do spend time on ground also.

Semi aquatic is best. They poop and pee in the water, so its EASYER this way. Trust me. You rarely have to clean the soil, infact. I have never cleaned mine, don’t need to, no poop. Water is easy to clean if you buy a pumplike device from your local aquarium store. It looks like a long tube and it "vacumes" water out (without electricity)

Live plants are better than fake plants, but get "hard" live plants, by that I mean not fragile plants that will break, try to get high ones because their claws get long and they will ruin it. It wont be too much of a problem if you have lots of logs and vines for your dragon to climb on.

How to make an enclosure for my 6×9 speakers in my rear deck of my 2000 neon?

March 30, 2010 - 12:23 pm 1 Comment

Is this possible? Also, will it add more bass then just having the 6×9s floating free in trunk with no enclosure at all? I have the rear deck dynamatted right now and am wondering what these boxes I want to make would do?
How would I go about doing this? Is there some kind of online guide that you could guide me too? Thanks!

Yes it’s fairly easy to do and, yes it will make the 6*9’s sound better.

It’s worth the effort, build em’

What are some things to put in a cat enclosure?

March 8, 2010 - 6:13 pm 8 Comments

So i need ideas, but since im a first time cat owner im not to sure what a cat would like or not in the enclosure. So i need some help.
And please answer if you have/had a cat, thankyou :) Uhhhhhhh the enclosure will be out side, so she doesnt hurt the wild life while im not at home.

Something to scratch, something to pounce, something to swat, something to hunt.

Something to snuggle in, something to hide in, something to eat and drink from, and something to destroy.

Each cat has different needs and different ways to spend their time.
Each of the above will hone your cat’s senses in some way or another, or comfort him, or keep him occupied.

What is the difference between load center vs enclosure?

March 2, 2010 - 10:08 pm 1 Comment

Load center also known as: breaker panels, fusebox, fuseboard, circuit breaker panel, panelboard, consumer unit or CU, load center, power breaker and power panel

I need to know the difference between those and an Enclosure?

Thanks!

An enclosure is basically just an empty metal box that typically has a swing door for easy access and holes on the sides to run cables in and out of the box. You can choose to put/mount whatever equipment/hardware you want inside the enclosure (e.g. network switch) so that it’s out of the way and doesn’t make a mess.

A simple enclosure doesn’t contain any of the fuse/circuit breaker components, it’s just designed to house other equipment (which could include a breaker panel for example).

How do I hook up an old hard drive using enclosure to my laptop?

February 26, 2010 - 8:25 pm 1 Comment

The drive came from an old desktop and is an IDE (wide grey connector). I have a rocketfish hard drive enclosure.

I was hoping to reformat the drive by connecting it to my laptop then connect it to my desktop as an extra drive.

It’s connected to my laptop using the usb and the hard drive enclosure. Should it show up as a removable drive? How do I reformat it?

yes, it should shows up as a removable drive, you format it by right click on it and choose format.

why don’t you install it a secondary drive on you Desktop then format it?

after installing it, Right click on my computer > select manage> select Disk Management, make sure you are at the correct HDD and format it

again make sure you are at the correct HDD, you have been warned

How to make a cheap water dragon enclosure?

February 17, 2010 - 3:01 am 2 Comments

I am looking to buy a water dragon.
I am looking to build my own enclosure or buy a CHEAP one.
I am on a semi low budget.
Thanks.
I want to make a enclosure for a water dragon.
The enclosure i want is 6-7 feet high 4-5 feet in lenght and 3 feet in depth.
Im not looking to spend alot. I would like to spend about $150-170.
(without the lights, heating and all that)

You can shop on craigslist.org and there people sell things that they don’t need or can’t keep anymore and you can get tanks and animals for free in the pet section.

Can I transfer my RAID hard drives from one enclosure to another?

January 20, 2010 - 7:06 pm 2 Comments

Details:
I have a 1 TB storage RAID enclosure, that uses e-sata cables to connect to pc.

I have one light out on the RAID device and was wondering if I need to buy another RAID enclosure and put the harddrives in the new one.

Will this work?

It depends on what type of RAID is being used. If it’s mirrored (RAID 1), then it should work. If it’s striped (RAID 0), it might not. I would just buy the same brand/model of the enclosure if possible. Backup your stuff on it before hand just to be on the safe side.

What exactly does an External Enclosure do for my laptop?

January 17, 2010 - 10:26 pm 2 Comments

Is it an alternative to an external hard drive? Because I need more space to work with on my Toshiba Laptop. And what exactly does an external enclosure do?

An external enclosure is to store a hard drive that connects to the outside of the laptop.

An enclosure first of all looks good, protects from shock and offers a little protection from other types of damage like accidental watter spills.

I prefer USB Thumb drives, being a good alternative for those every day things like storing music.

Where can I find a replacement hard drive enclosure for my external hard drive?

December 29, 2009 - 2:26 pm 5 Comments

The specs on the hard drive:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.1
320G
Ultra ATA

I don’t know anything more about it. I need the replacement enclosure as well as all necessary cables.

You can find these at major computer hardware sites like NewEgg.Com, ZipZoomFly.com, TigerDirect, CompUsa or even Amazon.

What you need to know is that the enclosure must support 3.5" drives (your format) and IDE (also known as PATA NOT SATA). These kits usually have both the power connection 4-pin molex and
IDE connection ribbon cable).

Good luck

P.S. For example a random search turns up 38 matching items on Newegg.
