The MacBook Air is best suited for one who places a premium on weight rather than performance.

However, an objective "pros and cons" may be useful to decide for yourself:

For MacBook Air performance, specifically, this may be of interest:

Hope this helps!

Is this internal hard drive and enclosure ok for my music?

May 5, 2010 - 2:22 am 2 Comments

This is my external hard drive setup

Internal HDD
I got a 1TB Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7,200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Link: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334293

External HDD enclosure:
Vantec NexStar CX 3.5" SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure link: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0280367

The only thing I want to do is store all my music and videos on this hard drive and also use it to playback my media from a computer and/or a multimedia receiver. The hard drive may be on for a couple of hours during the day. Speaking about the enclosure, since its fanless, is it still a good enclosure for the purpose of this hard drive? I don’t want this hard drive to cook up on me. Besides, it is advertised as an aluminum, heat dissipating enclosure that will ensure that the hard drive won’t overheat. Please let me know what you guys think, thanks.

lol, i have the exact same setup and it works great. I can run games with it and everything. Doesn’t get hot at all. I love my vantec case. It is a giant heatsink that keeps the hard drive really cool.
Comes with an estata desktop adapter too which is really nice (and all the cables you need)
and putting it together is really easy. two screws and one cable.

MacBook or Macbook pro for grade 8 student?

April 7, 2010 - 10:18 am 1 Comment

I like to play WoW, and i like the macbook pro because of the unibody aluminum enclosure… But i dont think i need it. I heard that the macbook scratches easily. Please dont post comments like "OMG ur 2 yung 4 a mac!!1!"

The new Macbook doesn’t scratch as easily as the older generation, and you can get the same spec for a cheaper price than a MBP. You are only in 8th grade so I would go for a Macbook unless you really really need the extra graphics card (the Macbook already has a decent graphics card for WoW; the MBP has two graphics cards).

Internal Hard Drive Enclosure / Silencer?

March 30, 2010 - 12:24 pm 2 Comments

I have a logisys hard drive silencer like this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817999003

I was wondering if its bad to have the hard drive covered and in this aluminum case?

Actually, it is good to have it covered in aluminum.

Aluminum is the ideal metal for dissipating heat; so it will not only silence it, but keep it cool.

How do I use an external hard drive?

March 28, 2010 - 9:08 am 2 Comments

I recieved a a external hard drive recently as a gift. I just don’t know how to use it. It came with a smaller- than- usual CD but i put it in my computer and it wont start up by itself. I have a 3.5" HDD Smart Drive Enclosure by Bytecc. It’s also aluminum if that means anything. If someone could please just tell me how to download files to it that would be great.

For Windows XP and WindowsVista, you do NOT need any software drivers from any disks. Just plug the USB cable in and it will work. The small CDR media is for Windows 98 and earlier to help with USB recognition.

Convert internal to external hard drive?

March 16, 2010 - 7:13 pm 2 Comments

So, I took apart a broken laptop and pulled out the hard drive. I bought this case from amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Aluminum-External-Enclosure-Capacity/dp/B000FNBYKW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268429966&sr=8-3
The connection to the case has a bunch of holes, but the hard drive has like a strip with contacts, not pins. Am I missing something? How can I get this connected?

You bought the wrong type of enclosure. You needed a 2.5" SATA enclosure. What you bought was 2.5" IDE. I suggest you return that and buy this: http://www.amazon.com/SATA-Hard-Drive-Enclosure-500GB/dp/B001AAVA08/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268430370&sr=8-1

Hard Drive Enclosure for PS3 Drive Replacement?

March 8, 2010 - 6:13 pm 1 Comment

My friend and I were planning on upgrading our PlayStation 3s by backing up all the files to an external HDD, as every video tutorial explained. However, we found that it may be cheaper, faster and easier to use a Hard Drive enclosure: basically an aluminum box where you place the HDD inside, and connect it to a SATA-to-MiniUSB connection. Although the question is:
If I place the old 80GB HDD into an enclosure, will I be able to restore the files onto the new 500GB drive, or will I have to do a back up to another, blank external hard drive prior to the replacement?
Thank you for any replies, helpful or not.

You can try diskgetor

Suppose you have a machine which has a very strong magnet inside. You have some computer disks in the room and?

Suppose you have a machine which has a very strong magnet inside. You have some computer disks in the room and, although you think they are far away enough from the magnet to be safe, you don’t want to take any risks. What material would be appropriate for building a magnetic shielding enclosure?

A) aluminum.
B) plastic.
C) iron.
D) copper.

We won’t do your homework for you dude.
