I recently asked a question about hard drive enclosures. You guys gave me some great answers and some sites to look at. I did look around but i found TONS of hard drive enclosures. I want one with an instant backup button, aluminum case (no fan), and some lights to tell me if it is working and when it is backing up (optional, i don’t really need this). This is my first time buying an enclosure like this and i need to know which one is the best.
I’m not talking about a external hard drive. I am talking about a external hard drive without the hard drive, an enclosure that acts like an external that you slide a hard drive into it. Sorry for the confusion.

i missed your first posting and you can im back if you wish. would you not be happier locating it internaly? pick up a promise pci to ide adapter card and add up to 4 more drive or drives and roms with 100mb/s transfer for about 10 - 15 $. for a mojor back up for archive, extrnl hdd thru usb is great but flash drives and disks are way cool and dont require power or the space. i use a 1 gig mp3 player. most movies are under 700mb which leaves me unought room for 50 + songs.and if that not enought. i have a2gig flash drive that was only 45$.which is enought for a ton of files pitures and so on…. most external drives come with an inclosure. i would not focus on the enclosure, i would primary consider the brand name of the hard drive. Maxtor makes this awsome hard drive enclosure, it has all of the bells and whistles you may want, click on their page to check out. As fas as the Maxtor brand, well i’m not too crazy, I like western digital and seagate or quantum. good luck
