Connecting a SATA to USB cable to a 250GB Western Digital Passport?

December 8, 2010 - 12:27 am 1 Comment

My hard drives failed and I want to see if connecting it directly with the aforementioned cable will help.

I’ve looked at a few videos on youtube that show the front part of the drive simply sliding off. (I’ve already taken it out of the plastic enclosure) but my drive does not seem to be able to do this. It’s just one piece.

Please help!

This is the device you want to make it happen.

Any ideas for my homemade boa enclosure?

December 5, 2010 - 10:26 pm 1 Comment

I have this old closet like thing, its kind of like a dresser but taller and its all open space. Its really pretty and I have nothing to use it for, so i got the idea to make a homemade snake enclosure for the boa Im getting. Could i go to home depot to get the doors removed and replaced with plastic or glass doors? Or where could I go to have that done?

You have to remember that boas need a certain amount of heat and humidity. They also need a hot side (with a lamp) and a cool side, if your dresser isn’t wide enough to accommodate that than I wouldn’t bother. The dresser itself could also become damaged from the humidity levels. It would be so much easier to just sell/donate the dresser and buy a proper tank for your snake.

For a pet collar what enclosure is best: plastic snap or metal buckle?

I need to get my kitty (well actually she’s a full grown cat-3 years & 3 months) a collar and I don’t know whether I should get a sturdy metal buckle (I realize this is dog collar just showing what kind of buckle we’re dealing with http://www.gotags.com/pet_tags_by_id/35) that won’t come off no matter what she does or is it better to get a plastic snap (the snaps like this http://www.gotags.com/catcollars.php) that would be easier to get out of in the even she is stuck somewhere-keyword easier to come off I don’t know if that’s good or bad-is it better to have a collar that comes of easily? Even if she gets lost? Thank you!!
I’m definitely going to get a breakaway safe collar but they come in either plastic snaps or buckles-which to get?!

If she’s indoors you run the risk of her strangling herself when she catches herself on something. Get her MICROCHIPPED and skip the collar.

What type of external drive enclosure?

I pulled out hard drive on my Compaq Presario 2100 laptop to retrieve the files off it. I got a 2.5" IDE HDD enclosure for it and it doesn’t fit! Did I buy the wrong one or am I doing something wrong? Please any help! Thanks!
What doesn’t fit is the conectors /slots. The one on the enclosure looks like pins fit into it. The one on the hard drive doesnt have pins, but a slot.

before you purchased a parts or hardware for the replacement for your laptop, you must bring the damage hardware to the store so they can refer what kind of hardware you can purchased and replaced.. then you might need a computer technician to do the replacement because we technician have a proper procedure in assemble and disassemble a system machine hardware.. we prevent the ESD.. the virus comes from your body.. if the ESD from your body goes to the hardware you bought even though it is a brandnew.. it might be damage.. before you hold the hardware you must first hold a metal object for the ESD..hope that helps..

can a 2.5 hard drive work inside a 3.5 external enclosure?

November 24, 2010 - 9:05 pm 2 Comments

i want an external enclosure with a *fan* and can’t seem to find one for a 2.5 hard drive. so i figured i would just get one for a 3.5 hard drive. that way i can use it with all my hard drives, but i don’t know if that will work.

What type of harddrive do you have ?
PATA (IDE) drives connector are different between the 2.5" and the 3.5". But on SATA drives they’re the same.

So you can run 2.5" SATA drives in 3.5" enclosures, but not if you have PATAs (IDEs)

I have my samsung xbox 360 dvd drive and connected it to cpu with sata usb enclosure, How do I see it?

November 23, 2010 - 3:00 am 1 Comment

I connected it to my xbox 360 sata drive throught a sata to usb drive but it will not show up on device manager. Is there some thing I need to do to allow the computer to see it?

if you want it to act like a pc hard drive you need to format it because it is not a ntsc or fat32
If you want to just view your files you need viewer to view the fatx files
get one here http://www.xboxscene.com/tools/tools.php?page=harddrive

Would my ata laptop hdd be compatible with a external data hdd enclosure.?

November 21, 2010 - 6:15 am 1 Comment

My laptop died. I can still hear the hard drive spin and I want the data that’s stored on it. I’m looking to buy a external hdd enclosure but all I see is sata enclosures. I’m not too big on tech so I’ve no idea wtf. I mean when it comes to enclosures are ata and data drives the same thing? Would my ata drive work on a sata hdd enclosure.

Your ATA laptop hard drive can be put into an external enclosure, but not a STA enclosure. You need an ATA enclosure for a 2.5" hard drive.

What type of reptile can live in this sized enclosure?

November 19, 2010 - 9:12 am 6 Comments

It is an enclosure that was built for my Iguana (he is still pretty small) but he doesn’t like it. The enclosure is in my room, It is 4 feet long 3 feet tall and 20 inches wide. What type of reptile could live in this sized enclosure? Before getting any, I will learn everything about that type of animal. Thank you
Bearded Dragons are okay but I already have one. She is a very nice lizard though.

Black and White tegus are great, but they cannot live their whole lives in a cage that size. Depending on their adult size, they need at least 6-8 feet in length, and 4 feet in width.
