Where can I find a replacement hard drive enclosure for my external hard drive?

December 29, 2009 - 2:26 pm 5 Comments

The specs on the hard drive:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.1
320G
Ultra ATA

I don’t know anything more about it. I need the replacement enclosure as well as all necessary cables.

You can find these at major computer hardware sites like NewEgg.Com, ZipZoomFly.com, TigerDirect, CompUsa or even Amazon.

What you need to know is that the enclosure must support 3.5" drives (your format) and IDE (also known as PATA NOT SATA). These kits usually have both the power connection 4-pin molex and
IDE connection ribbon cable).

Good luck

P.S. For example a random search turns up 38 matching items on Newegg.

HD enclosure that has, IDE, SATA, Firewire, USB, anything out there?

So a HD caddy that allows 3.5′ IDE and sata, and will connect via usb or firewire, well the firewire isn’t essential but the ide and sata are.

a couple options for you to look over

What is the difference between an external hard drive and an external hard drive enclosure?

December 24, 2009 - 4:09 pm 5 Comments

I want to buy an external hard drive for my computer, and one of the products I found was an external hard drive enclosure. Is that the same thing as an external hard drive? If not, please explain the differences. Thanks.

external hard drive enclosure is not the same as external hard drive.

you can buy an external hard drive and plug it into your PC through a USB connection. once that is done you are ready to save files to it.

an external hard drive enclosure is just a case, an empty case with cables, there is no hard drive in it (it’s only an enclosure) you have to buy a hard drive separately. usually these are used if say you have a spare hard drive from an old computer and no space in your new one. you buy a case and stick the hard drive into that, you then plug it all into the usb port.

you should stick to external hard drives (not enclosures).

Why is the demand for the 13" Macbook Pro so high?

December 21, 2009 - 8:08 pm 1 Comment

I was looking at the specs for the 13" Macbook Pro and the newest white macbook. They both have the same processor, same memory, same video card, same battery. The 13" macbook pro has SD slot and Firewire and the aluminum enclosure is probably more durable than the polycarbonate one, but the whitebook has a bigger hard drive and costs $200 less.

So, why so much more demand for the 13" Macbook Pro than the white macbook?

because Mac users follow blindly… some blogger wrote about how great the 13mbpro is, and now everybody HAS TO HAVE ONE, OMFG!

Are there external enclosures that support hard drives bigger than 2TB? Where can I find them?

December 19, 2009 - 4:53 am 1 Comment

I searched a couple websites and only found enclosures that supported drives up to 2TB. I’d like to get one that supports larger drives than that, so I can continue to use the enclosure in the future when drives are above 2TB.

Thanks!

External Single drive enclosures are so cheap, like $15-$20 it really shouldn’t be an issue. By the time you think you need to go to a larger drive, the interface technology will probably have changed and you’ll need a new one anyway.

You can get a Rosewill R25S for $40 that holds 2 x 2TB drives. Are you storing the Vatican library or what :))

Will A Sub enclosure for 15’s fit inside the trunk of a 2001 Mustang GT?

December 11, 2009 - 7:45 am 2 Comments

If so, where is a shop or a website were i can give exact measurements of my trunk to get a custom subwoofer enclosure?

problem isnt your trunk. the problem is the "opening" to your trunk. i found boxes on ebay for 2 15’s in sealed enclosure that are "slanted" so you can fit them in and there extremely cheap, like 50-60 shipped. that would be your best bet

What size enclosure is best for a carpet python?

December 11, 2009 - 7:45 am 1 Comment

I’ve been latley thinking about getting a coastal carpet python. I would prefer to raise one from a hatchling or yearling, but i dont really know what size terrarium/vivarium is best for one so small. Ive read people keep them in a shoe box sized plastic box for the first 12 months, until its feeding well, then move to a small aquarium then a large one. What sizes are best??

You can start a fast growing baby in a 20 gallon long that has structures in it to climb and perch. Adults will require a standard room closet sized enclosure.

How to install a subwoofer into an enclosure?

December 11, 2009 - 7:45 am 1 Comment

Hey guys! I currently have a 12" Kicker CVR in a ported box installed in my car. The box is taking up way too much room of my trunk, so I am going to get a custom box built. I was wondering what are the steps in removing the sub from the current enclosure and putting it in the new one? Is it difficult? What exactly needs to be done? Any help would be great!

usually just like 8 philips screws, that the most common type used to put a sub in. once you take the sub out disconnect the wires, there will be 4, they are just little push pins.. push up and the wire will come out, one by one.

Where can I send a 2.5 HD that has been physically damaged to recover data?

December 4, 2009 - 8:56 am 1 Comment

When I plug it in to an external enclosure, via firewire, or USB, it makes a horrific noise, scraping etc. It does not mount. Is there a company to which I can send the HD to recover the lost data?

There are companies like this one http://www.canadadatarecovery.ca/ but not knowing where you live you should do a google search on "hard disk failure data recovery".

This place starts at $200 to do the recovery - I know it is not cheap.

Can I use the hard drive in my xbox as an external drive? I have an empty external enclosure.?

December 4, 2009 - 8:55 am 1 Comment

I can’t sell the xbox, which is the obvious thing to do, even though I have no intention of ever putting it back together if I can use the hard drive. Please don’t even ask why. I have an empty external enclosure, but I don’t want to open up the xbox to see if it is compatible unless I know it will work. I assume someone has already done this and has the answer.

yep, its just a regular 5400rpm 3.5" drive in there
