November 11, 2009 - 10:28 am 2 Comments

Whenever I click in the View HTML Source box and try to add an enclosure, then post it and go back to the code, it doesn’t save it.

I was searching the web and seen a few things there so type into your web search your question and you may come up with the HTML code.

what is a good and powerful amp for my subs that are the jl audio cs310rg-w1 three 10 inch sub enclosure?

November 3, 2009 - 10:58 am 1 Comment

i have a 2001 3 series bmw and i am getting jl audio component systems and i want to know what is the best amp for my powerwedge jl audio cs310rg-w1v2 which is three tens in a manufactured enclosure and i want it to bumb down the street and around the corner

Power rating is 900w rms and the final impedance is 2.7 ohms.
The obvious choice would be the JL 1000/1. It is $650-700 new on line.

Otherwise you’re looking for a 2 ohm stable amp that will give you 1200w+ at 2 ohms - the extra impedance would reduce power to something closer to the rated power for the enclosure.

* Intel Core 2 Duo
* 4GB Memory
* Precision aluminum unibody enclosure

And I was woundering what the memory was.
Would it be only 4 gb :(

It does not mention the ram anywere so i was thinking that the 4gb memory was just the ram memory.

xp will not recognize my USB external hard drive enclosure?

November 3, 2009 - 10:57 am 5 Comments

i have been using an adaptec external hard drive enclosure on my laptop. recently the laptop no longer recognizes it. it will make a sound when i plug it in so i know it’s connecting but it will not show up in explorer as a drive. i have tried everything…unplugging it and replugging it. plugging it into a different usb port, etc. anybody got a solution for this??? thanks!

Oh I have some experience. It is simple. Unplug all your usb cables that are plugged in while your PC is shuted down. Then plug in only the device you needed. Turn on your computer. If it works, shut down you Pc again. Then plug in the other devices and do the previous steps(don’t unplug the other devices).

(Calculus) Finding the length and width of the enclosure that is the most economical to construct?

November 3, 2009 - 10:57 am 2 Comments

A fence is to be built to enclose a rectangular area of 280 square feet. The fence along three sides is to be made of material that costs 6 dollars per foot, and the material for the fourth side costs 15 dollars per foot. Find the length L and width W (with W<= L) of the enclosure that is most economical to construct.

Perimeter = 2L + 2W
Area = LW = 280.
Cost = 12L + 6W + 15W or 12L + 21W (if one width is $15)
It does not matter which is L or W yet.
For what values of L and W is cost a minimum?
cost = 12L + 21 x 280/L = 12L + 5880/L
Differentiate this and equate to zero.
You get: 12L^2 = 5880 or L^2 = 490.
L = 22.134. Thus W = 280/L = 12.650
Minimum cost = 12 x 22.134 + 21 x 12.650 dollars
Minimum cost = $531.26. Length = 22.134 ft, width = 12.65 ft.

You can check that any other combination of L and W will cost more than this. e.g. try L = 20, W = 14. Area = 280 and cost = $534.
L = 28, W = 10 gives cost = $546 and so on.

Are fiber glass enclosures better than wooden?

November 3, 2009 - 10:57 am 4 Comments

I’m thinking about getting a ported fiber glass enclosure and just want to know which is better concerning sound quality and bass production.

Typically fiberglass enclosures are chosen for two reasons. The first is if you have a tight space and need all the volume you can get. The second is for unique enclosure that looks great. Fiberglass enclosures can be unique shapes unlike MDF enclosures.

Audibly there will likely be no difference between a fiberglass enclosure and an MDF enclosure. If you were choosing fiberglass just because you want it to sound better then you should reconsider and just go with a MDF enclosure to save money.

One benefit of fiberglass enclosures is that they are easily made very strong just by adding some more fiberglass mat on the enclosure. By doing this you can easily make a much stronger enclosure then an enclosure made from MDF. This means less flexing which results in more output.

One thing many people don’t do when making a fiberglass enclosure is design the enclosure to fit the sub. By that I mean people don’t make the enclosure to the correct volume and tuning frequency (if ported). This results in bad sound from your enclosure. It is still very important to make the enclosure to fit the specs of the sub.

Bottomline, fiberglass and MDF with be audibly the same when properly built. Go with MDF for a basic enclosure and go with fiberglass for a unique looking enclosure.

Good Luck!!!
