Snake Enclosure Hide Question?

March 24, 2010 - 2:29 pm 2 Comments

I recently own 5 snakes and i keep them in plastic storage bins due to the fact that they are much more convenient than aquariums in that they are light weight, easily cleaned, stackable, contain heat well and are over all a better environment for the snake, the bins i use have semi clear "fogged" walls, which makes a snake feel more secure seeing as how most snakes are easily stressed with all clear walls such as what an aquarium has, my question is whether or not a hide is needed in this type of enclosure, i have seen many snake breeders that keep their snakes in snake racks which are basically bins in racks and many times if not most of the time, the snakes are not given a hide, i dont know if this is because to give so many snakes their own hide would be inconvenient or if it is really not all that needed? So it it completely necessary to provide each one of my snakes with a hide?

I wouldn’t say that its necessary to have a hide for every snake. We have over 100 snakes and not all of ours have hides, but majority do. I’ll tell ya something I use that my snakes love, (mainly for the baby colubrids, juve corns, hogs, and garters) is empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls! I’ve even put in empty spaghetti boxes lol. They like anything like that. So you don’t have to get all fancy and buy them expensive hides, especially since you don’t have yours out on display. All of mine are in racks except our dusky pygmy rattler. He is set up in our living room and his tank is a little more decorated. Hope this helps!

What kind of hard drive is this?

March 20, 2010 - 6:38 pm 2 Comments

I have an Iomega Ego 500gb External Hard Drive, but the USB 2.0 port on the enclosure is damaged. I’m shopping for a new enclosure but do not know what kind of drive this is to know what to buy. SATA, IDE, or what.
This is a link to check out the hard drive.

It is SATA type with 8MB or more cache.

Where can i find information on tools for assembling electrical enclosures?

March 20, 2010 - 6:38 pm 1 Comment

i am looking for a source of information on tools of the trade for assembling electrical enclosures. i am looking for workbenches, general tools, specialty tools including how to cut the holes for fans etc. Lifting devices for heavy panels. and any other supplies anyone can think of. All input is greatly appreciated!

Look at McMaster-Carr and TechnoTools. Jensen makes very nice service kits (tools in a suitcase for field work).

Convert internal to external hard drive?

March 16, 2010 - 7:13 pm 2 Comments

So, I took apart a broken laptop and pulled out the hard drive. I bought this case from amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Aluminum-External-Enclosure-Capacity/dp/B000FNBYKW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268429966&sr=8-3
The connection to the case has a bunch of holes, but the hard drive has like a strip with contacts, not pins. Am I missing something? How can I get this connected?

You bought the wrong type of enclosure. You needed a 2.5" SATA enclosure. What you bought was 2.5" IDE. I suggest you return that and buy this: http://www.amazon.com/SATA-Hard-Drive-Enclosure-500GB/dp/B001AAVA08/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268430370&sr=8-1

Does anyone know of an external enclosure that supports multiple harddrives?

March 14, 2010 - 4:39 pm 1 Comment

I have 6 160GB drives sitting around collecting dust. They are IDE drives. I am looking for an enclosure to hold 2 or more of these that connects to the comp via usb 2.0 preferably. My motherboard has firewire capabilities but i dont feel like running the wire to the case so prefer usb 2.0. Any help or links would be great or does anyone know a way to use my current usb to ati bridge (external case) and use 2 or more drives at once on that? Im not looking for it to combine them into one drive. I want them each seperate.

Mitsubishi USED to be the top television brand. I have one that still works great from years ago.

But they dropped the ball with HDTV.

Their first DLP television was priced at $9,999 - many times more than others.

For many years they made televisions w/o support for 720 - one of the defined HD standards.

They original had something called "The Promise" where you could buy the early generation of HD televisions and Mitsubishi promised to offer an upgrade-module for $300 to make it compatible with changes to the HD spec - but many people got screwed over when they failed to come through.

So … this is why that unit is so cheep. Mitsubishi is not well respected anymore and few stores carry them. Sony, Samsung, Pioneer and even Panasonic are better respected and considered more reliable.

Hard Drive Enclosure for PS3 Drive Replacement?

March 8, 2010 - 6:13 pm 1 Comment

My friend and I were planning on upgrading our PlayStation 3s by backing up all the files to an external HDD, as every video tutorial explained. However, we found that it may be cheaper, faster and easier to use a Hard Drive enclosure: basically an aluminum box where you place the HDD inside, and connect it to a SATA-to-MiniUSB connection. Although the question is:
If I place the old 80GB HDD into an enclosure, will I be able to restore the files onto the new 500GB drive, or will I have to do a back up to another, blank external hard drive prior to the replacement?
Thank you for any replies, helpful or not.
