Can ball pythons flatten their bodies to get out of enclosures?

July 28, 2010 - 12:34 am 4 Comments

I just got a ball python today and his enclosure has two clips that keep it shut. One of them is broken and there is a very, very small space that is left open. I’ve heard that they can flatten their bodies to get through small spaces, is this true?

Again a couple of 13 year old kids answer a question they know nothing about. Even go so far as to be mildly insulting to the asker as they spew B.S. Anyway, Ball Pythons are very crafty when i comes to escaping and YES they are extremely flexible animals. They are adapted to flex and move to allow large food to be swallowed whole. Mine has escaped from spaces so small that its hard to believe and once actually damaged his scales a little bit because he squeezed so tight. It is your responsibility as a reptile owner to make sure the cage is sealed well enough that they cant escape or hurt themselves trying. (I dropped the ball on this one). As a rule, and no matter what anyone else tells you, If the snakes head can fit through the opening its body will be able to follow. I know what it sounds like because Ball Pythons are so fat but ive witnessed it first hand. Sure up your cage. Your snake likely spends a few hours a night testing it for weak points(Its a thing most Ball Pythons do).
All of this information can be found online and in a variety of good books about keeping snakes.
Most of the other answers you been given can only be found in the minds and hearts of children.

What happens if my sub enclosure is too small?

July 24, 2010 - 11:13 pm 4 Comments

For example, if I got the Kicker CVR 10" which has a minimum sealed box size of 0.8 cu ft. and I put it into a box with 0.65 cu ft., what would happen?

OK Darkside has it backwards, Sealed boxes are smaller. Ported boxes are bigger. What your going to notice as far as sound, is certain bass frequencies wont be heard. so your going to notice, maybe not enough low bass or just to much low bass and not enough tight bass. try to get it as close as possible to air space. it make a whole lot of difference. trust me ;-)

For a pet collar what enclosure is best: plastic snap or metal buckle?

July 14, 2010 - 3:43 am 4 Comments

I need to get my kitty (well actually she’s a full grown cat-3 years & 3 months) a collar and I don’t know whether I should get a sturdy metal buckle (I realize this is dog collar just showing what kind of buckle we’re dealing with http://www.gotags.com/pet_tags_by_id/35) that won’t come off no matter what she does or is it better to get a plastic snap (the snaps like this http://www.gotags.com/catcollars.php) that would be easier to get out of in the even she is stuck somewhere-keyword easier to come off I don’t know if that’s good or bad-is it better to have a collar that comes of easily? Even if she gets lost? Thank you!!
I’m definitely going to get a breakaway safe collar but they come in either plastic snaps or buckles-which to get?!

If she’s indoors you run the risk of her strangling herself when she catches herself on something. Get her MICROCHIPPED and skip the collar.

Are they fast? Also how long battery life do these things get?

The MacBook Air is best suited for one who places a premium on weight rather than performance.

However, an objective "pros and cons" may be useful to decide for yourself:

For MacBook Air performance, specifically, this may be of interest:

For "real world" battery life:

USB 2.0 vs Firewire with external hard drive?

July 5, 2010 - 3:00 pm 2 Comments

I currently have a USB 2.0 enclosure, however I’m thinking of getting a combo USB/Firewire one.

Is Firewire better for an external hard drive? For things such as pictures, videos, back up images, software, music, etc?
Or is there any difference at all?

I have a PC with Win7.

I don’t know why, but I had problems with fire wire with windows 7. When i used usb 2.0 it worked fine, but not as fast. I would recommend fire wire if it works.

What type of external drive enclosure?

June 27, 2010 - 11:01 pm 2 Comments

I pulled out hard drive on my Compaq Presario 2100 laptop to retrieve the files off it. I got a 2.5" IDE HDD enclosure for it and it doesn’t fit! Did I buy the wrong one or am I doing something wrong? Please any help! Thanks!
What doesn’t fit is the conectors /slots. The one on the enclosure looks like pins fit into it. The one on the hard drive doesnt have pins, but a slot.

before you purchased a parts or hardware for the replacement for your laptop, you must bring the damage hardware to the store so they can refer what kind of hardware you can purchased and replaced.. then you might need a computer technician to do the replacement because we technician have a proper procedure in assemble and disassemble a system machine hardware.. we prevent the ESD.. the virus comes from your body.. if the ESD from your body goes to the hardware you bought even though it is a brandnew.. it might be damage.. before you hold the hardware you must first hold a metal object for the ESD..hope that helps..

Does some kind of external PCI, PCI express, or AGP slot or enclosure exist?

June 24, 2010 - 12:00 pm 1 Comment

Maybe one that connects by FireWire or ExpressCard?

Yes, although they aren’t sold purely as enclosures.

The Asus XG station was the first device of this sort, but it was discontinued before ever making into widespread production. I think it was available in Australia for a very short time.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/hands-on-with-the-asus-xg-station-external-gpu/

ATI later announced the XGP, which somehow led to the Amilo graphics booster but it seems those products also went nowhere. They were announced, some reviews were written but I don’t think they ever made it to retail channels.
http://game.amd.com/us-en/shop_AMILOGraphicBooster.aspx

Nowadays there’s the Vidock2, which connects to an external monitor via an ExpressCard slot. To my knowledge the PCI-E card contained inside can be replaced. That’s the one to check out- they even have a Facebook page ;-)
